The Chariot
Major Arcana · VII
- willpower
- determination
- victory
- drive
- self-control
You can win this, but only by holding opposing forces together and driving them forward. The Chariot shows a figure steering two sphinxes that pull in different directions — not with reins, but with sheer focused will. This is the card of determination and hard-won victory: a goal reached because you refused to be pulled off course. It asks for discipline over your impulses and a clear direction to point them in. Harness the tension inside you rather than letting it split you, and momentum becomes unstoppable.
The reins have slipped. Reversed, The Chariot points to a drive that has become scattered, a direction lost, or a willpower that tips into force and aggression. You may feel pulled in two directions with no way to choose, or be pushing so hard that control is turning into strain. Slow the vehicle down and find your center again. Direction matters more than speed right now.
Symbolism & imagery
An armored figure stands in a chariot drawn by one black and one white sphinx — opposing forces yoked together. A canopy of stars overhead and a city behind mark a journey mastered by will, not by the animals’ own agreement.
