The High Priestess
Major Arcana · II
- intuition
- inner voice
- mystery
- the subconscious
- stillness
The answer you are looking for is quieter than the noise around it. The High Priestess sits at the threshold between the seen and the unseen, guarding what cannot be reasoned out but only felt. She asks you to stop pushing for a solution and instead listen — to the dream, the hunch, the thing you already know but have not admitted. This is a time for stillness over action, for trusting your intuition even when you cannot yet explain it. Some knowledge arrives only when you make room for silence.
You are being pulled away from your own inner voice — drowning it out with other people’s opinions, busyness, or the urge to have an answer right now. Reversed, The High Priestess can also point to secrets: something withheld, or a truth you are keeping from yourself. Reconnect with what you sensed before you talked yourself out of it. The guidance did not disappear; you just stopped listening.
Symbolism & imagery
A veiled figure sits between two pillars, one black and one white, marked B and J — the gateway of duality. A crescent moon rests at her feet and a scroll of hidden knowledge lies half-concealed in her lap, behind a veil embroidered with pomegranates.
